Grain-free baking powder is a leaving agent that is made without corn or wheat starches.  It is mainly used in paleo and grain-free or gluten-free baking to support those who have corn or wheat intolerances.

These days corn, wheat, and soy are literally in every single conventional packaged food, which can pose a big problem for those who need to avoid these foods.

Before going grain-free, I never realized that most commercial baking powder contains aluminum and cornstarch.

But do not despair; there is a simple workaround for this problem. This homemade version allows you to control ingredients and is super quick, easy, and cost-effective to make. All you need is three simple ingredients.

Now you can still make all your favorite baked goods and treats without the digestive distress from the corn and wheat stretch alternative.

You might wonder if the cream of tartar is necessary – the short answer is yes! Cream of tartar acts as the leavening agent when combined with the baking soda in most grain-free and paleo baking recipes. This is what gives the baked goods that nice rise.

You can use this grain-free baking powder recipe in your favorite recipes. We love banana bread and snickerdoodle cookies so much.

This homemade grain-free baking powder works precisely like “normal baking powder.” It can be substituted at a ratio of 1:1 for any recipe that calls for baking powder.

Happy baking!
