Pineapple is a cooling plant rich in manganese and vitamin C.  The core of pineapples contains a proteolytic enzyme called bromelain which is a powerful anti-inflammatory compound.  The astringent and anti-inflammatory compounds of pineapple make it a great choice for supporting sore throats.

How to get the most from your pineapple?

Eat it fresh.  The nutrients and enzymes in pineapple degrade rather quickly once cut or cooked.  The antioxidant levels of the fruit are highest when ripe.
Eat the core.  The proteolytic enzyme bromelain is concentrated in the core.
Juice it.  Pineapple juice can help support and lower fevers, ease sore throats and coughs, and acts as a natural expectorant.
