After many years of physical and mental struggles and not knowing that there were other options for healing outside pharmaceuticals and conventional medicine, I finally worked up my courage for my first healing protocol. Of course, it was pretty simple. In brief, it consisted of targeted supplementation for extreme nutritional deficiencies, balancing blood sugar (with the help of this buttermints recipe), gentle detox therapies, hydration, and intentional nourishment with a nutrient-dense real food diet.

Blood sugar imbalances can cause intense sugar cravings, anger, hormonal imbalances, adrenal dysfunction, thyroid issues, etc.

In today’s world filled with highly processed foods, convenience, and busyness, I am still waiting to see a client who doesn’t have some degree of blood sugar imbalances.

With that said, these little buttermints (or butter bombs) can help balance with balancing blood sugar and alleviate many of the associated discomforts.

Signs of blood sugar imbalance

  • awaken a few hours after falling asleep, and find it hard to get back to sleep
  • crave sweets
  • binge or uncontrollable eating
  • excessive appetite
  • crave coffee or sugar in the afternoons
  • sleepy in the afternoon
  • fatigue that is relieved by eating
  • headache if meals or skipped or delayed
  • irritable before meals
  • shaky if meals are delayed
  • frequent thirst
  • frequent urination

Those who have been around for a while know that the first thing I address with my clients is food fear and real food for nourishment and pleasure.

Why buttermints?

This buttermints recipe combines my love for both. Furthermore, the combination of pastured butter and raw honey nourishes the endocrine and nervous systems and is very satisfying.

While in Nutritional Therapy school, I became obsessed with Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. Of course, she is a great resource filled with much knowledge and understanding of the human body. She is a leading expert on gut health and a renowned medical doctor in the natural health world. Hence, she created the original recipe.

Nourishing Buttermints

Easy, delicious, and nourishing butter bombs that support blood sugar balance.

  • 1 lb grass-fed butter, room temperature
  • ¼ cup raw honey
  • ⅛ tsp peppermint extract (optional)
  • small pinch of sea salt
  1. Place all the ingredients in a mixing bowl, and beat until completely smooth and combined. Add the peppermint extract if using.

  2. Line a baking sheet with unbleached parchment paper. Use a piping bag to pipe small portions (about the size of a quarter) onto a lined baking sheet. Freeze for 30 minutes.

  3. Transfer the frozen buttermints to an airtight container. Store the buttermints in the freezer. | Eat 1-2 mints every 30-60 minutes when awake for roughly two weeks to stabilize blood sugar levels. |
